Glasgow Evening Times

The Glasgow Evening Times is a newspaper that is published from Monday to Saturday each week in Glasgow, Scotland. It has an evening sister paper called The Herald, which was created in 1876. The publisher of The Herald and Glasgow Evening Times was moved in 1868 to a building on Mitchell Street. That building is now currently called The Lighthouse, which is Scotland's Center for Architecture, Design and the City. The current publishers were bought out in 1964 by Sir Hugh Fraser. The ownership of the Evening Times was then taken over by Tiny Rowland's Lonrho in 1979.

The Glasgow Evening Times newspaper was then moved to another office in July of 1980 to a black fronted building, which was modeled after the Black Lubyanka building of the Daily Express newspaper in London's Fleet Street, on Albion Street. This building on Albion Street was previously used by the Scottish Daily News workers' cooperative during the months of May to November in 1975. In May of 1992, there was a manager buy out, who created the Caledonian Newspapers, which was later bought by the Scottish Television in 1996. It was then renamed the Scottish Media Group after it was purchased.

The Glasgow Evening Times and its sister The Herald are owned by Newsquest, which is a Gannett division. The Newsquest acquired the Glasgow Evening Times and its sister in 2003 when it bought the publishing arm called the Scottish Media Group. It was a highly controversial sale with an amount of 216 million pounds (or euros).

You can now find the Glasgow Evening Times sold in recognizable booths through out the Glasgow City Center. You may also here the seller calling out the catchphrase, "Times, Evening Times!" He shouts this out so many times. The Glasgow Evening Times is also delivered door to door by paper boys and paper girls. The Glasgow Evening Times is sold in stores in the city as well.
