The Glasgow Celtics were the first British team to win the European Champions Cup, which occurred in 1967. The Italians, Portuguese and Spanish football clubs were the previous holder of the championship cup. During that season, the Glasgow Celtics won every match they played including: the Scottish League Cup, the European Cup and the Glasgow Cup. The Glasgow Celtics were the first team to win the trophy with a team made up of only home-grown talent. All of the players were Scottish and all born within a 30-mile radius of the Celtic Park.
The Glasgow Celtics came close to winning the European Champions Cup in 1970, but was beaten by the Feyenoord team during extra time. Martin O’Neill then led the Glasgow Celtics to the UEFA Cup final held in Seville in 2003, but they ended up losing 3-2 to F.C. Porto in extra time. During this game, there were over 80,000 fans that traveled to Seville to see the Glasgow Celtics play; this was one of the biggest traveling fans and supporters ever assembled for a single game (according to UEFA).
